Activ8 Eatwell is a programme from Sport Northern Ireland and the Food Standards Agency in Northern Ireland which encourages children to get active and eat well to stay healthy.

Last year 145 primary schools took part in the 6 week Activ8 Challenge giving 23,000 children the opportunity to get active and to stay healthy. Pupils participating in Activ8 Eatwell are encouraged to lead healthy and active lifestyles by following these key themes:

  • Being physically active for at least 60 minutes every day
  • Drinking lots of water
  • Eating a healthy breakfast
  • Eating lots of fruit and vegetables
  • Making healthy food choices.

Why promote physical activity and healthy eating?

All children should have the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes that will enable them to make active and healthy choices throughout their life that will be beneficial to themselves, others, society and the environment.

New curriculum linked Teacher Resources for the Activ8 Eatwell programme have been produced and are available to download for all registered schools. The resources have been developed for teachers by teachers and provide a complete package of three resource manuals for Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

The resource manuals facilitate a whole school approach to the promotion of healthy eating and physical activity and include pupil diaries, games and challenges and a range of other teaching materials.

These are all free to download once a school is registered.
