Earlier this year, the Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council opened a contest for everyone to play a part in helping design the official pin for members of Team Northern Ireland. From the numerous submissions received, the NICGC is proud to present the final team pin that incorporates 'a bit of everything Northern Ireland' into the design.

Sport Northern Ireland bringing Sport and Art together for Giro legacy

Sport Northern Ireland celebrated another piece of Giro legacy at a primary school in North Belfast on Friday morning, 20 June 2014.

On hand to help Chief Executive Antoinette McKeown at Bunscoil an tSleibhe Dhuibh Primary School, was Sports Minister Carál Ní Chuilín and renowned local artist Deepa Mann-Kler.

Giro Jersey Design Winners Receive Wildcat Visit

design winner-ballyholme ps-patrick boyd-web1Each of the six Giro Jersey Student Design Competition winners are receiving a school visit from one of our Activ8 Wildcats (Twist or Bounce) in celebration of their accomplished design and cycling enthusiasm.

First visit: Bangor, County Down, where Ballyholme Primary School pupil and Giro Jersey Design Winner, Patrick Boyd, received a personal "congratulations" from Bounce the Wildcat (see photo). Not only was Patrick showered with kudos, but he received a Giro d'Italia/Activ8 goodie bag full of fun items, too.

The Giro d'Italia is over, but the fun of cycling goes on

Baby cryingThere's no need for tears just because the Giro d'Italia is over! Celebrating and engaging in cycling is a lifelong pursuit, with years and years of health and fitness ahead of you! Activ8 continues to visit primary schools, training pupils in Sprocket Rocket cycling games and techniques, as Wildcat mascots—Twist and Bounce—maintain their busy schedules through to the end of school term.

Take a look at the collection of schools we've been visiting throughout the Giro season, with many more school visits to attend during June. Watch for more photos as they're added to the media pile.

Follow the Leader: the remaining weeks of the Giro d’Italia

giro finishing line-webEven though the Giro d'Italia Big Start in Northern Ireland has come and gone, it doesn't mean the great Giro race is over yet. With numerous resources—both broadcast and online—teachers, pupils, and families can keep track of which cyclists are leading and who's sneaking ahead, day by day, until the race ends on 1st June 2014.

Giro statistics and daily results may be followed on Sky Sport, which has been airing the Giro d'Italia live since the Big Start's kick-off on 9 May 2014. If your source is the internet, the top cycling website, CyclingNews.com is posting daily stage race results; as well as the Giro-sponsoring Italian sport newspaper La Gazetta dello Sport's website—with English translation.
