Sport Northern Ireland’s Activ8 programme has teamed up with the World Police and Fire Games to introduce an exciting challenge which encourages school communities to be active every day for at least 60 minutes for 60 days.


The 60x60 Challenge, which aims to change lifestyle habits for a lifetime, begins on Monday 22 April and runs until Friday 21 June. Everyone in a school community (Pupils, teachers, individuals, whole schools and even family members) can take part in the 60x60 Challenge by being active for 60 minutes each day and recording their activity on the Activ8 website.

You can take part in the full 60x60 Challenge or just take part in one or more of the Challenge Stages that begin each Monday,.

Activ8 scoops award for participation

participation awards resizeSport Northern Ireland’s Activ8 initiative received high praise from the Commissioner for Children and Young People at the NICCY Participation Awards.

The awards, which took place at the Stormont Hotel, are presented to government departments and public bodies who demonstrate they have involved children and young people in planning services and in the decisions that affect their lives.

World Police and Fire Games Launch Schools' Roadshow "Get Ready For Eddie"

get ready for eddie launchEmergency Eddie, the World Police and Fire Games mascot, is going on the road to encourage schools across Northern Ireland to connect with one of the largest multi-sports events in the world.

The “Get Ready for Eddie” Roadshow along with Sport Northern Ireland’s unique Activ8 Low Ropes Challenge will be visiting around 20 primary schools from now until the end of June to promote the World Police and Fire Games special Schools’ Programme and to highlight the importance of sport. The World Police and Fire Games which will attract 25,000 visitors including 10,000 competitors will be held in Northern Ireland from 1st – 10th August.

Activ8 Fun Run Art Competition

funruncompresizeThis is your chance to take part in the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon Art Competition and design the 2013 Activ8 Fun Run Certificate.

With over 2,300 participants in the Fun Run last year, you could be the “artist” responsible for designing the certificate to congratulate the participants when crossing the finish line.

Activ8 Eatwell - The Perfect Recipe for a Healthy 2013

a8ew minister resizeThe Minister for Sport, Carál Ní Chuilín, has launched Activ8 Eatwell for 2013.

First rolled out to primary schools in 2009, Activ8 is a participation campaign which encourages children and young people to do 60 minutes of physical activity every day to keep healthy. Helping to bring Activ8 to life, Sport Northern Ireland developed several programmes and joined up with the Food Standards Agency in Northern Ireland to develop Activ8 Eatwell, a programme designed to promote healthy and active lifestyles to children in primary school.
