The Giro d’Italia is coming  – Get your school involved!

Northern Ireland is hosting the opening stages of the Giro d’Italia cycle race. The Giro is second only to the Tour de France in terms of prestige in the cycling world. Although the race is primarily held in Italy, this year  the race starts with a time trial around the streets of Belfast on Friday evening, the 9 May. This is followed by a trip from Belfast up around the North Coast and back and on Sunday the tour moves to start in Armagh with a final destination of Dublin. The tour will then fly off to Italy to complete the race in Trieste on the 1 June.

As part of this programme, Sport Northern Ireland’s Activ8 is providing a series of exciting opportunities for primary schools across Northern Ireland to Get Inspired and Get Active! All primary schools entering our draw will be in with a chance to win:

  • A Giro d’Italia Active Travel banner for their school gates – to promote cycling, walking and scooting to and from school,
  • A Giro d’Italia Activ8 Schools Activity Pack which will include cones, stopwatches, pump, and high vis vests, resource cards and games, or
  • A visit from Twist and Bounce and the Activ8 Cycle Squad – practical cycling fun for all!

All you have to do is register your school or log in to the Activ8 website and enter  the Activ8 Giro d'Italia Draw. Registration for the draw closes on Friday 28 March.
