Team Northern Ireland’s Pin Design Contest

Do you have a knack for art, sports & a little creativity? Here’s your chance to design the official pin for members of Team Northern Ireland as they travel to compete in Scotland at the XX Commonwealth Games. This is an amazing opportunity to have your design seen by thousands of competitors from around the world!

The Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council invites everyone to play a part in helping design the pin. Chair Robert McVeigh expressed the importance of the public’s involvement in the lead up to the Glasgow 2014 by stating, “We want to engage both young and old in the spirit of the Games as we get closer to July. This is a great opportunity for our creative minds in Northern Ireland to design elements of the pin that embody the spirit of the team, its history and celebrate sport.”

The pin will truly take on a global journey. As a strong tradition of the Games, athletes will have the chance to exchange these bespoke pins with their international competitors, so the winner can be assured that the design will have the potential to touch every part of the Commonwealth.

Design guidelines:

  • Elements of design should embody what it means to be from Northern Ireland
  • Symbolic of the team, logo, past/future achievements, and/or sport
  • Legible, i.e. must be recognizable on something as small as a 10p coin
  • Creative

The winner’s design will be featured on a pin as well as receiving an invitation to a special reception. There will also be a draw open only to Primary School students who will have a chance to win one of 10 Activ8 Sports Day Packs (worth over £500) donated by Sport Northern Ireland. To be considered for the draw, your school must be registered with www.activ8ni.net.

The contest is open to all ages. Designs must be submitted by email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
