Commonwealth Games Pin Design Winners

cwg pinOfficial Pin Design - Winners Selected

Earlier this year, the Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council opened a contest for everyone to play a part in helping design the official pin for members of Team Northern Ireland. From the numerous submissions received, the NICGC is proud to present the final team pin that incorporates 'a bit of everything Northern Ireland' into the design.

DESIGN FEATURES:
The design is printed on a hexagonal shape representing Northern Ireland's natural beauty and one of it's most iconic landmarks, the Giant's Causeway. The backdrop carries the two cranes which are symbolic of the country’s industrial past. The CGF bar and colours of the Commonwealth Games' Trinity of Values are represented. The centre piece is the Red Hand of Ulster. Finally, the pin bears the name of the competing nation and identifies its participation in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

Students whose designs were chosen for the final pin helped their school's win an Activ8 Sports Day Pack (worth over £500).

WINNING SCHOOLS:

  • Royal School Armagh
  • Victoria College Belfast
  • Andrew's Memorial Primary School
  • Killicomaine Junior High School

The pin will truly take on a global journey as members of Team Northern Ireland travel to Glasgow to compete at the Commonwealth Games. As a strong tradition of the Games, athletes will have the chance to exchange these bespoke pins with their international competitors, so the winner can be assured that the design will have the potential to touch every part of the Commonwealth.
