Good Luck to #TeamNI at the 2015 School Games

ssg2015 logoThe Sainsbury’s 2015 School Games is a multi-sport event for the UK’s elite young athletes of school age that takes place from 3-6 September 2015 in Manchester.

The event seeks to create an inspirational and motivational setting that not only provides our elite young sports people with the opportunity to thrive and perform at the highest levels, but encourages more young people to take part and succeed in sport.

Over 200 athletes representing #TeamNI will travel to Manchester to compete. Chair Brian Henning noted the valuable experience that the UK School Games offers young athletes: “The Sainsbury’s UK School Games offer a fantastic opportunity for our new generation of elite athletes to showcase their skills and compete with some of the best talent from across the UK at a large-scale, multi-sport event. That’s why Sport Northern Ireland is proud to support the event. The Games seek to re-inforce the experience of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and I have no doubt that it will be a memorable and successful experience that will inspire Team NI’s athletes to future athletic success.”

Since the UK School Games’ inception in 2006, the Northern Ireland team has won 42 gold, 50 silver and 98 bronze medals. Previous athletes to represent NI include Bethany Firth, Sally Brown and Sycerika McMahon, who went on to represent Team Ireland or Team GB at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
